Padma

Artist Statement
I try to make sense of the world just like anyone else. Sometimes, my sense is that one must not be of this world all the time. It’s a game of numbers, values, and arbitrary structures, all claiming to be the real deal. It is not. My work is to keep after the real.
About Padma Prasad
Padma started painting seriously after coming to America in 1997. From 1986 to 1997, she taught English Literature at Stella Maris College, Chennai, India. Her need to recreate life at home in India led her to express herself in art, something she could do only because of the training and advice she received from her artist father, Dr. M. Reddeppa Naidu. For her, each painting is a joy of discovery, of remembering lines, colors, and spaces; the blank canvas is a powerful excitement to the mind. Originally, her work was mostly figurative; currently she is in an exciting phase of exploring abstraction and conceptualism.
