About Barbara Januszkiewicz
Barbara Januszkiewicz
Washington Color School artist, mentored by Paul Reed, filmmaker, and founder of Metro Micro Gallery
Barbara Januszkiewicz is a color field painter who was mentored by the last living Washington Color School Artist, Paul Reed.
Her dynamic visual interpretation employs large color fields that meld and overlap in translucent layers, evoking the rhythm and flow of her musical inspiration. While the artist’s work is reminiscent of Morris Louis and Helen Frankenthaler, she chooses to utilize brushes to control her fans of color rather than create pours in her color fields works.
Januszkiewicz’s 1500 square feet working studio is in Falls Church ,Virginia.
Her artwork has appeared in The Phillips Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Hirshhorn Museum , Washington Post and more. "I am driven to create abstract non-narrative art. My visual interpretation employs very large acrylic color fields that meld and overlap in translucent layers, evoking the rhythm and flow with using a brush.
The overall effect is one of slow, powerful visual rhythms, semi-translucent colors floats across my surfaces which the public can relate to.
My style communicates harmony with its variations of color, symbolizing our diverse community. My abstract art, waves of color overlay, just like us, overlap and touch each other's life in a positive manner, naturally. These large swaths of color fields meld and overlap in translucent layers, evoking the rhythm and flow of togetherness, community, love, and support.
I believe the arts enrich humanity, and it’s necessary to not only create your best art for society but also to give back, educate, and nourish an environment that encourages creative vision and creativity for all. Visit her website at: http://www.barbaraj.info/home.html
