Introduction to Artist’s Books

Name of Instructor:  Catherine Mommsen

 Ages:  16+

Day and Date:  Friday, March 4, 18; 11:00am -3:00pm each class

Catherine Mommsen Scott

Website: www.ImajicaAmadoro.com

Duration:  4 hours per class, four classes over the month of March

 Location: Via Zoom

 Fee:  $20 per session

Prerequisite:  None

Class Description: Artist’s books are three-dimensional works of art, just as sculptures, paintings, collages and drawings are works of art. The distinction is that an artist's book is in one of several book formats (codex [what we usually think of as a book, with two covers and pages bound together inside] scroll, accordion, and many other variations) and contain a series of works of art within. They are for the same purpose as any other work of art.

For the purpose of clarity, try to think of artist’s books as a medium.

Artists Book

Artists Book by Catherine

This class will teach you how to construct a versatile book in codex format.  You will develop the basic skills required for beginning, intermediate and advanced classes in the artist’s book medium. (Incorporating art and exploring cover design will be left to advanced classes to be offered soon.)

You will leave the class with a beautiful hand-bound fully functional sketchbook/journal/notebook for your personal use.
