Dear FAL,
Our May show at Old Town Hall is all about you! The theme is Heritage, A Celebration of Diversity.
We encourage all our artists to enter pieces that reflect their ethnic
background or represent a culture that they admire. You can enter
pictures of people, places, buildings, foods and even animals. Be
creative!
The
Heritage Festival is the largest party we host all year. There will be
a variety of live entertainment groups, including an Irish band and
Hawaiian dancers.
Being
an all volunteer organization, we need the help of our members in order
for it to be successful. Please volunteer your time and/or bring a
dish to share.
For
more information on this show and how to volunteer, read the newsletter
below or visit our website at www.fairfaxartleague.net

Wander has agreed to stay on as president for a second year, however,
she would like to train someone this year to take over the following
year. As trainee, you would be one of 3 co-vice presidents this year
2012-2013, and take over as president the following year. Positions are
held from July 1-June 30. Contact Wendy at wwander@verizon.net if interested.
Hospitality Backup Crew: Daniele
Robbins, our Hospitality Chairperson, and her able assistant Melinda
Rhodes are looking for a few members that will help them host our social

The Spotlight Reception
was a delight! It was very well attended - our Old Town Hall Gallery
was very full. Family, friends, guests, and members were enjoying the
art, the buffet table, good conversation, and our lovely harp music!
Harpist Kate Rogers provided music for our reception. The Spotlight
Awards were announced by Armistice Turtora. Armistice is a founding
member of the Parks Committee in the Town of Fairfax - she was
volunteering and helping before Fairfax became a city. Armistice is
currently a member of the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts. She
is also an artist - both lace maker, and tatter.
And the Spotlight Award winners are:
Catherine Mommsen - Best in Show
Ian Frank - 1st Place
Jacqueline Elwell - Special Merit
Nancy Whitfill - Special Merit
Carol Caputo - Honorable Mention
Wendy Wander - Honorable Mention
Congratulations to all our winners!
Thank you to this year's
judge, Lisa Semerad. A very special thank you to all our members who
participated - without you, there would be no Spotlight Show. An
enormous thank you to Sonia O'Donnell - this year's Spotlight Chairman.
Sonia helped to hang the show, and also created our Spotlight show
programs. Also, thank you to our Hospitality Chairman, Daniele Robbins,
who was responsible for the buffet table and decorations.
